Recording
Also called: Recorded deed
Filing the deed and other documents with the county recorder so the change of ownership becomes part of the public record.
Recording is the official filing of the deed, the buyer's new loan documents and any releases of old liens with the county recorder's office.
In most sales, recording is what marks the moment the sale closes and ownership changes hands.
What it means for you as a seller
Escrow will tell you when your deed has recorded — that confirmation is your signal that the sale is done.
